Before I get into what news ways to get found online in 2020, I wanted to say you should keep an open mind with the changing world of online marketing. Even though we are over 20 years into this Internet marketing experiment, it seems that every couple months there is always something new.
Over the past 2 years we have been building a very unique web visibility solution called SEO Turbo Booster. And along the way as I became more and more of an expert on how to get found online, a lot of these concepts ended up in our platform, and more will be added in 2020. Also, in 2018 I wrote a book called Go SEO Yourself, which helped me further become and expert on SEO and getting found better.
Here is what you need to look at in 2020:
- Appearing In Alexa and Google Voice Search
This is one of those things that people ask me about all the time. But if you think about it, the only real way to show up in Google Voice Search or Apple Voice Search is to be better at search overall. And to be better at Google search overall you have to be more natural in your language through all your content. Google recently stated that they are using more a natural language processing or semantic language. This simply means optimizing titles, descriptions, H1 and other content like URLs to be more natural sounding, like “What’s a Pizza Place near me?” may work better than “Pizza Boca Raton” since it is contextual and the more human statement should work better. Finally, if you are new to rich snippets, meta data or rich data that meets the schema.org criteria is also a factor in getting found in voice searches. If you have not started to implement rich snippets, the time is now to start.
- Get Even More Local
One of the most important aspects that has changed Google Search or SEO, Search Engine Optimization has been the mobile phone. The mobile phone or cellphone has introduced geo tagging, the ability for the phone to know where it is by lat and long or zip or city, state, country. Only county seems to be a negative. So as you probably already know local means a lot of things. GMB, Google My Business, has been around for a while. I think of GMB as Googles social answer to Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter. That’s because you can post updates and photos in GMB. If you a local business you absolutely need GMB set up correctly and managed. But let’s talk about getting even more local. One of the reasons we created SEO Turbo Booster, my own cloud product, is to allow website owners to easily create a lot more local content. That is not the same thing as just more random blogging content, backlinks or other techniques companies use to get found. I am talking about spreading your wings locally. The straight up answer here is if you business is in Parsippany, NJ, and you get business from Morristown, Hanover, Montville and Denville among 20 other local towns, what you really need to do is create a page per town. So let’s say you do that and by keyword. So if you owned a pizza shop, and you had 3 sets of keywords and there were 30 towns a round, that would mean you need really 90 pages created that are specialty pages. It’s a page, especially if you need 900 pages or 9000 pages. That is what SEO Turbo Booster does.
- Create A Pod
About a year ago I was invited into a Linkedin Pod. I write about it here because it really was quite successful when I did it. I did not understand at the time exactly what we were doing. It worked. It worked real well. I would write a post or article and get tons of views. Everything was great, until they moved on from Linkedin. They may have cut me. They told me they were moving elsewhere. That is what they told me. I would have stayed with it, but they had so little in common with me. So let’s talk about what is a pod? A pod is a group of people acting together. What does that mean? Well it means when you are a member of the group. The Linkedin Pod group basically all followed, liked and commented on every post and article each of us pushed on Linkedin. So, when I would write an article like this, I would automatically get my usual people, but then sudden about 15 others would like it, and that pushed it to 1,000 views when I would get 50 at the most. Sometimes I would 3,000 views. And that’s because members of the Pod have their own audiences working together. I am trying to create a new one just about online marketing tech or small business marcom where we all work together like this. The original pod I worked in was random, but amazingly good writers. Not sure of the total formula, but if you apply this to Medium, Google, Linkedin, Twitter and your own website, these “likes” could be important. So just a thought here.
