I often preface my articles stating this is an opinion, not based entirely on facts alone. I may have some facts, but my opinion here is subjective, not objective. And if I get some things wrong, I am sorry about that. Please correct me with your facts or even your opinion! And I wish that others in the SEO, Search Engine Optimization business, or digital marketing in general, would be honest that there is no one-size-fits-all for online search. It all depends on the situation per client.

That said, I have been thinking about writing an article about how AI is transforming organic search which all online business and marketing agencies battle to get as high as possible for natural search in Google Searches.

First off, if you have not read my articles before, I need to let you know that I am a partner in PAIGN AI, which is an AI Marketing Assistant. So you will understand my biases and where I am coming from. I am working with customers and digital agencies daily.

I will get back to PAIGN AI later in this article, and its features and benefits. What I want to talk about is what I am seeing in terms of a realignment of AI and natural search or organic search.

Many years ago, when I first began working on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for a large dating event business, I started to get some deeper knowledge about SEO, especially with SERPS, rich snippets, GMBs, and more. So, I’ve been around the block a bit. Here are important aspects of this new realignment from old-time search to the new AI reality.

  1. AI vs. Old-Time Organic Web Content Search
    What used to be a not-so-competitive search engine game is now starting to migrate to an AI game. This simply means getting found via an AI Search will eventually be as important as getting your website pages found on a search engine, or traditional search. Organic search is still important, but there is a change afoot and it needs to be carefully examined. Winners will use AI to get an advantage. See this Article. OpenAI introduces its AI Search Engine. This just came out today.
  2. AI Results Is All I Need
    I am noticing on Google searches, with the AI turned on (“Gemini”) the results are excellent. Personally, in my own Google AI searches, I am not even getting past what marketing and old-time ad agencies call “The Fold”. This means Google’s AI produces an answer I can use without having to click around and visit a ton of SERPS (the page listing info) or click on a website listing. For 90% of searches, answers are automatically at the top of the page. This has been a game-changer for me. It’s not great for sponsors and advertisers. They will suffer from this change, as well as website owners, but if you need a quick answer it is amazing. Let me know in the comments if that is how you feel!
  3. Website Traffic Levels Are Down
    Obviously with AI on Google giving a quickie answer, people don’t have to go off to far-flung websites looking for an answer. I describe it as more and more buying decisions are in the cloud and less at websites. The result is we [I mean website owners and our clients] are having lower levels of traffic, while conversion rates are rising as well as $ per visitor. Who needs more visitors if you are having just as many or more sales with less traffic?
  4. Customer Buying Is Happening In The Cloud
    I wanted to focus a little more on this issue. All the content on your website, if you can get it into the AI engines properly, should sell on the cloud. By the cloud, I mean in Google AI searches, in OpenAI / ChatGPT searches, as well as Meta AI, Twitter AI, and Linkedin AI searches. I think you are starting to get my re-alignment theory. And quite frankly it has already happened. What I can not predict is the interface or the next stage, which could be different in a couple of months or years. For instance, it may speak to us…
  5. The New AI reality
    So think about it, there is a new search reality already happening, which is more direct, faster, and better. It used to be Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and others with their web crawling and searches. Quite honestly it was not always fair and if you have the money you could game the system. Today, search has become Google’s Gemini AI Search, Microsoft’s ChatGPT with DallE and Sora AI search, and to a lesser extent Meta AI, and Twitter AI. Linkedin AI is part of the Microsoft camp. These are the places where customers will get their answers. Check out Meta AI. It is a real search that gives you results, but it’s not the same as the other AIs.
  6. Why You Need The AI Beast!
    One of the reasons I wrote this article is to explain at least to my customers (online marketers and businesses), how I see our product PAIGN AI helping you with this new realignment, as a small business marketing agency, or marketing professional. By pushing content and data into AI, you are essentially feeding AI. So, for instance, by using PAIGN AI, and creating content with it, you are pushing a ton of information through the ChatGPT API. Therefore it is in their data placed there by you, not crawled. And that is how you need to look at all the AIs. To win it, you have to be in it and our product PAIGN AI can make it very convenient to get it in there.
  7. How You Can Feed The AI Beast!
    Getting your website indexed by Google is all you have to do for Google AI. By pushing information into OpenAI, using PAIGN AI, you are putting content in there that will be found, and finally by posting through PAIGN AI to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Linkedin, you are feeding additional AIs. Having a website indexed is great for Google AI. By pushing information into OpenAI, using PAIGN AI, you get content posted in there, and finally, by posting through PAIGN AI to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Linkedin (which PAIGN AI does as well), you are feeding those AIs…. Basically by doing the work of digital marketing end-to-end you are hitting all the AIs, but once again how much time or money will that cost you? With PAIGN AI it is very affordable. This is probably my most vulnerable theory. Let me have it if you disagree!

So I have given you my theory, which states that all content put into AI will produce better AI results for your desire to be found. AI will be able to quite easily find the right answer and produce that answer for customers.

It’s not all sweet-smelling roses for everybody. I don’t feel this new alignment is great for large corporations and enterprises. It is great for small businesses who take advantage of the opportunity of getting their information into the AI engines just as well as their larger competitors, who can afford high-priced digital agencies. AI and how this realignment is going could be a way for small businesses to fight back against a long Google-dominated search and get in the leads game.

AI is not great for people gaming the system. I have worked on some of these projects. We call them black-hat. If you are a porn industry person, you used to be able to get on search results with hidden links, embedded into WordPress plugins to hack your way to the top of Google. All of that comes to an end when AI is the sieve that content goes through. It is smart enough to know an OnlyFan from a Jets Fan.

It has and will make life difficult for SMBs who do not participate in feeding these AI engines. If you have not built a website, nor have social posts happening, and are not writing articles, blogging, and posting stuff like this article, you are in the dark and it will get darker.

Asking ChatGPT for answers has kind of eliminated the sponsors and PPC people in that product. Even Google, by giving AI results at the top of the search is cutting its own throat. I am quite sure paid advertising is not going away, I just think PPC does not exactly fit in this model unless Google manipulates the AI to show the sponsors. And who wants to ferret through paid sponsor links when you can get a quickie answer from ChatGPT? That is what Google is facing!

I also think that AI is smart enough to push aside and remove a lot of the noise, which is in some respects the world of digital marketing for clients, creating the noise. Google is still in the great search engine conundrum. Make AI available to everybody and lose in the paid advertising business or face that search will start to migrate away to competitor’s AIs. Microsoft and ChatGPT are just the beginning. Meta AI and others will soon follow!
