I like how AI can take an idea and turn it into a physical image.

We Lost Our Need To Know Things!

I wrote an article several years ago about how we don’t have to remember all those phone numbers, emails, even street addresses because of the rise of apps, smart phones and more. We used to buy address books where we kept copious notes about the address of our best friends in high school, so we could look it up if we needed to pick them up.

Fast-forward 20 years and now we don’t just need to know all this info in our heads, but using AI, we can and will know what we want to know exactly at the time we need it. It’s like just-in-time brain power.

So as the new year just passed for 2025, I am looking at what we lost and what we gained in this technical turning point!

My sons, who are teens, do not need to remember my personal phone number or my email. They have no need to know anything about anybody. It will auto show up in their cell phones or PC and boom, the info is there.

AI, for all it’s negatives and positives is not new. ChatGPT and other AI models have just made it easy to use and consume at the user level.

I remember the first “auto-complete” word processing program that would auto-complete your writing. That was simple AI back then. I have met a dozen early AI people from the 80s and 90s recently. And honestly you can’t really differentiate AI from general computing. The two are inter-twined. OpenAI did not invent the concept. I remember reading I Robot by Isaac Asimov. Robots are AI.

So, we know what we have lost.

We can’t or don’t need to know much of anything anymore. I think the having to know everything was possibly a good thing. That little black address book seemed to have some purpose in life. Maybe it kept you smarter. I think 99% of losing the need for all these tracking mechanisms in little black books has ended. We are there.

So, what have we gained?

Or better yet, will be gaining. We will be gaining the ability to know things that we don’t even want to know, like knowing years in advance of cancer or heart disease or even rarer diseases are coming for us. We will have more warning signs. We will have apps that can detect more and more. Smart medical devices are going to be the next big thing. They already are.

Smart homes will go to the next level using AI!

AI pets are just around the corner!

Personalities will be part of everything!

I can envision within 3 years every car will have a personality that talks naturally to you that is AI based. And within several more years you will chose that personality. I think that personalities will be embedded in more than cars. I think the frig will have a personalty, the home will. Everything in a human’s world will have a personality. And why would it not be that way?

It is really whatever you can imagine that is possible with AI. It can and will do the work you do. It can and will drive a car or vehicle. It can and will remove jobs, create jobs, and change the way we live. All of this is happening already.

So don’t be shocked with the car or home with a name. By 2050 this AI movement will be in full motion. We are just at the very beginning of all of this, and nothing will really shock me when it happens, because it is already happening.
